How Often Should I Have A Skin Cancer Screening

It really depends on your clinical situation. It is recommended that you have a skin cancer screening at any age where a concern exists about a new or changing skin lesion. If you have a family history of melanoma skin cancer, you should be screened annually. Dr. Seraly generally recommends to patients who have a prior history of non-melanoma skin cancer [Basal and Squamous cell skin cancer], multiple atypical moles (called dysplastic nevi) or have had multiple precancerous skin lesions removed, twice yearly screenings. Patients with Melanoma may need to be screened more frequently than twice yearly.
